Atelier Gooch

Storytellers of place, translating combined visions for living into form. Our practice is founded on a deep reverence for architecture’s ability to shape lives. Designing spaces not only to be admired from a distance – to be lived in, felt, experienced, remembered.

A collaborative office picture

Guided by intuition, underpinned by expertise. We trust our instincts because they’re built on a deep reserve of experience. Complete understanding that comes only from hard-earned years of observation, precision, practice.

We care about the unseen just as much as the obvious – the quiet details are often the ones that unknowingly leave the deepest impression.

Gooch (Gürcan) Özyiğit RIBA, ARB

Founding Director

Gooch is an expert in his craft with a distinctive ability to couple architectural beauty and significance whilst adding value to the projects he designs. He is particularly well renowned for finding creative planning solutions for listed buildings and complex sites of all scales for which he has a remarkable track record. He draws on an architectural narrative from the context and setting of a project whilst threading in a design that balances a sense of light, space, comfort and functionality.

Gooch believes that successful projects are born out of strong relationships and has built an incredible network of collaborations with globally renowned interior designers, full design team professionals, planning authorities, conservation experts and is able to recommend a suitable team for his client projects. He takes pride in being actively involved in every project with Atelier Gooch to offer his clients a seamless and fully managed, truly bespoke service to suit them regardless of scale, complexity, or location.

Heba Mohsen

Part II Architectural Assistant

Heba joined Atelier Gooch as a Part II Architectural Assistant after completing both her Undergraduate and Masters studies at the Bartlett School, UCL, where her Undergraduate project was awarded the Bartlett Medal and received a commendation in the RIBA President’s Medals. Her Masters project won the Bartlett Architectural Design Prize for highest design marks in the graduating class.  Her professional experience includes bespoke high-end residential architecture and interiors/joinery, particularly in listed buildings and conservation areas. Heba has also taught at The Bartlett Summer School and Outreach Programs and she is a regular guest critic for The Bartlett undergraduate course.

Heba enjoys exploring how historic architectural precedents and proportions can be reinterpreted in a contemporary context through bespoke design and craftsmanship.  She is currently working across two of our heritage residential projects; a Grade II* listed Jacobean Manor House in Oxfordshire and an early Grade II* listed Georgian estate in Hampstead, London both providing the ideal opportunity to explore how to preserve the history of a place whilst also adding a new “chapter” to the building’s story.

James Barber

Part I Architectural Assistant

James has recently graduated from his undergraduate degree in architecture at The University of Sheffield where he developed a particular interest in public spaces and how sustainable retrofit can develop to become more accessible in the cost of living crisis. He has also helped to create educational resources for the wider school, focusing on environmental design. This included creating websites and a physical material library in which students could use to research material alternatives.

Since joining Atelier Gooch as a Part I Architectural Assistant, James has focused on our film studio masterplan projects, learning how spaces become adaptable for all uses, from both an engineering and architectural perspective.

Justina Sun-Hwa Hwang ARB

Associate

Having worked with Gooch in the past, Justina was a founding team member of the practice and became an Associate in 2022. She leads the international Creative Media and Masterplanning projects, in addition to the ongoing restoration of a historic listed Jacobean Manor House project in Oxfordshire.

Notable past projects include the conversion and extension of the listed Brentford Magistrate’s Court into apartments, restoration and remodelling of a Georgian terrace in Belgravia and multiple refurbishment projects at UCL Bloomsbury Campus including several learning spaces, and notably, the Bloomsbury Theatre.

Justina’s Masterplanning specialism is informed by her passion for architecture that considers and has a positive effect upon its wider environment. Consequently, she has developed expertise in ecological and environmental site management, from bats and great crested newts in Oxfordshire to koalas in Western Australia,

Lillian Tran ARB

Project Architect

Lilian is a passionate and versatile Project Architect with experience working on a wide range of projects, from residential and commercial builds to mixed-use developments and heritage retrofits. She has led teams and delivered projects across all stages (RIBA 1-5), balancing creative vision with technical precision. She is currently working across both private residential and creative media projects, including a Grade II* listed early Georgian estate in Hampstead, London and a film studio masterplan on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Lilian enjoys working on bespoke and heritage projects of larger scales that allow for precise high-quality design as well as opportunities to engage with wider context and public realm. She is passionate about wellbeing and a greater awareness of mental health, from championing the benefits of bringing landscape and nature into buildings, to acting as a mentor to junior colleagues and advocating for women in architecture.

Marta Casamayor ARB

Project Architect

Marta holds nearly a decade of professional experience in London, where she has honed her technical skills across housing and commercial projects, with a particular focus on retrofit design. Her international background includes work in the Netherlands and Spain, enriching her architectural perspective with diverse cultural and contextual insights. Marta studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (ETSAV) and RWTH Aachen University in Germany, graduating with distinction in 2014. Her thesis explored prefabrication techniques in contrast with vernacular architecture—an early expression of her interest in innovative yet context-sensitive design.

As the Project Architect on our Jacobean Manor House project, Marta champions a material-led, sustainable approach to architecture, embedding environmental responsibility and precision at every stage of the design and construction process.

Mazebah Siahaan

Architectural Designer

‘Zeba’ studied architecture at Pelita Harapan University, before working for an architecture studio in Bali on projects throughout Indonesia, including a private two-storey villa in Bali and a boutique resort near the shores of Lombok. He joined Atelier Gooch as an Architectural Designer and quickly developed into a 3D modelling specialist, producing photorealistic renderings and video content for our high-end residential projects, wider masterplans and film studio developments.

Zeba embraces the importance of communication through visualization in any shape or form and is continually exploring the opportunities of how to present our design concepts to clients that allow them to not only see but fully immerse themselves in the potential of their projects.

Patrick Judd RIBA, ARB

Associate

With a strong foundation in technically focused architecture from the University of Bath and London Metropolitan University that promoted a collaborative ethos between architecture and structural engineering, Patrick’s career has consistently centred on interdisciplinary design. He has delivered a broad spectrum of residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, including leading the design of Vine Hill, a mixed-use development combining hotel, office refurbishment and affordable housing; and managing key phases of the East Wick and Sweetwater project in the Olympic Park, which involved collaboration with other plot architects and stakeholders such as the LLDC and Quality Review Panel.

More recently, Patrick has focused on private residential projects with bespoke refurbishments and extensions across London. His design approach is inherently client-focused with a deep appreciation for narrative-led, people-centric spaces. Since joining Atelier Gooch, he is leading on many of our London residential projects, from a large late Georgian Grade II* Hampstead estate, to remodelling Victorian terraces in Notting Hill into luxurious, contemporary family homes.

His passion lies in designing homes that tell the story of the people who live in them—spaces shaped by close collaboration, careful listening, and an understanding of how architecture supports everyday life.

Shane Karkheck

Architectural Designer
